Ariocarpus agavoides (Neogomesia agavoides, Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus ssp. agavoides) is found in Mexico (Tula, Tamaulipas). Recently groups of Ariocarpus agavoides have been found in San Luis Potosi. The flowers of agavoides are magenta to deep pink. Ariocarpus agavoides is found on sites with limestone based rocks. This plant has been nearly extinct in the past. Reasons: livestock, collecting, agriculture, erosion and building construction.
The habitat of Ariocarpus agavoides is on plains which are flooded during the growth season. In cultivation this cactus likes a lot of water in summer and little to no water in the other seasons. In the resting period Ariocarpus agavoides is prone to rot so be careful. Ariocarpus species require full sunlight. At younger age some shade is necessary. Propagation of Ariocarpus agavoides seeds is not very difficult.
