The Cereus cactus group represent beautiful columnar cacti. They are all native to South America. Flowers are often long. Cultivation and propagation of Cereus species is not too hard. The grow well in a standard cactus soil mix with added Bims or grit for drainage. Cereus cactus plants are propagated from seeds or by taking cuttings. Water well in summer when they are actively growing. Keep Cereus species completely dry in winter. Most Cereus species can withstand a minimum temperature of 10°C.
