Ortegocactus (syn. Neobesseya) are relatively small globular cactus plants. They have a nice greyish green body with black spines. They are native to Mexico (Oaxaca) where they grow in an enriched mineral soil. The flowers are yellow with a hint of green. Ortegocactus macdougalii needs a sunny position. Minimum temperatures in winter must be kept around 15 °C. Propagation is done from seeds. Seedlings can be grafted on a stock to speed up the growth.
