Strombocactus disciformis (syn. Mammillaria disciformis, Echinocactus disciformis, Ariocarpus disciformis, Echinofossulocactus turbiniformis, Echinocactus turbiniformis, Mammillaria turbinate, Cactus disciformis, Cactus turbinatus, Anhalonium turbiniforme, Strombocactus (Turbinicarpus) disciformis) is native to the Mexican states of Hidalgo, Guanajuato and Quetaro where it is found on limestone based rock slopes and hills. Strombocactus disciformis is one of the rare solitary geophytes amongst the cactus plants. Its flowers are white to creamy.
Strombocactus disciformis needs a highly mineral soil and a careful water regime. Propagation is done from seed. Fresh Strombocactus disciformis seeds are available in our cactus seed section. The downside of growing Strombocactus from seed is that the seedlings take approximately 3 years to reach a handable size.
