Tephrocactus (syn. Opuntia) is found in Argentina and Peru. They are nice plants with padded stems. Tephrocactus can be grown in regular cactus soil in bright light. Keep dry in winter at a minimum temperature of 10 °C. Propagation is done from seeds and stem cuttings.
